In the framework of Al-Zahra University's (PBUH) commitment to achieving the third Sustainable Development Goal, which focuses on "Good Health and Well-being," Al-Zahra Center for Research on Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences hosted a scientific workshop entitled:
"Industrial Products and Human and Environmental Health"
Workshop Axes and Objectives:
The workshop, prepared by Dr. Majed Ahmed, Director of the Center, focused on the direct relationship between the use of chemical industrial materials and human and environmental health, emphasizing the need to limit the challenges and risks resulting from exposure to harmful chemical materials.
The workshop addressed three main axes for products that contain harmful or irritating substances, which are:
Detergents and Household Cleaning Products.
Preservatives and Dyes in Manufactured Foods (which are associated with chronic non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease).
Personal Care Products and Medicines.
Call for Sustainable Development:
The workshop called for cooperation between academic institutions and the private sector to adopt more sustainable and environmentally friendly production practices.
It also stressed the importance of applying national standards and legislation to ensure the safety of circulating products and reduce the negative impact of industrial products on air, water, and soil quality, to ensure healthy living options and well-being for all ages, which is what the third Sustainable Development Goal seeks to achieve.
